How
To Sleep Less and Optimize Your Sleep
by Kacper M. Postawski, www.PowerfulSleep.com
At some point in our lives
we have all asked ourselves how to sleep less without sacrificing
the mental sharpness, physical strength and energy level required
to carry us through our day to day obligations. The importance of
the often suggested 8 hours of sleep has always been preached to
us. We are taught that if we deny our body enough sleep it will
respond with a reluctance to wake up in the morning and a sluggish
start to our day. This will be a precursor to a very long day met
with fatigue and difficulty functioning. We will screw up at work,
struggle to meet a deadline, score low on an important test or be
extremely irritable. But do we all need 8 hours of sleep to function?
What if each of us could figure out how to sleep less and squeeze
a few more hours of actual living into every single day?
Many people, especially creative types or
entrepreneurs, are constantly wondering how to sleep less. It has
been reported that successful personalities like Donald Trump and
Martha Stewart, even rock legend and merchandising mogul Gene Simmons,
are known to get an average of 4 to 5 hours of sleep each night.
Perhaps there is some correlation between success and people that
figure out how to sleep less. Certainly we can all accomplish more
while awake than asleep. While a Google search may bring up dozens
of studies suggesting that less than the recommended 8 hours of
sleep is detrimental to your health and well being there are also
a number of studies that have contradicted these theories. These
studies suggest that people who sleep 6 to 7 hours a night actually
have longer life expectancies than their counterparts who may over
sleep.
People will always debate the consequences
of sleeping less but millions of people throughout the world, not
just the above-mentioned celebrities, have mastered how to sleep
less. It's a matter of not forcing a routine upon yourself. Many
people force themselves into a specific bedtime regardless of whether
or not they are tired. This pressure to sleep often brings upon
bouts of insomnia or light sleep with tossing and turning. The key
with how to sleep less is to develop a routine. Wait until you are
truly sleepy before going to bed. Train yourself to awaken at the
same time each day. Your body will eventually figure out how much
time to allocate each night for sleep. The inner sleep clock will
optimize sleep by achieving a deep sleep despite the shorter duration.
It's a situation where the sleep quality may actually be more important
than the amount of sleep.
